Charitable organizations have various needs, which change depending on circumstances. Sometimes, these organizations need volunteers more than they need money. At other times, they may have plenty of volunteers, but they need money to buy supplies or to help support the cause for which they have organized. Before you donate to a charity, find out what they need the most and how you can make a difference.
Many individuals who would like to donate to charity simply do not have the money to do so. However, these individuals can still make a valuable difference by donating their time or skills to the cause. The time and the skills that you bring to a charity are worth money as this means they won’t have to pay someone else to do what you are willing to do for free.
Often, when major disasters occur, so many volunteers show up to help that many of them have to be turned away. This often happens when a tornado or flood ravages an area. Although the charitable organizations that have mobilized to provide assistance appreciate each volunteer, there are times when they need money more than they need more people. In addition, much of the time, there is still work to be done months down the road. However, most of the people that show up to help only do so in the first few days after the disaster. Once it is no longer in the headlines, the disaster, as well as the people who are still in need of help are forgotten. When you want to give of your time or skills, months later your help may still be needed.
While charitable organizations appreciate all of the time and money that individuals are willing to donate, if you really want to be of service, find out what they need and then see if you are able to answer that need.
