The years spent in college could possibly be some of the best years in a person’s life. Many people go to college for the sole purpose of earning a degree, but there is much more to college than that. In fact, it takes a lot more than intelligence to succeed in college. Dedication, perserverance, and being able to manage one’s time are also needed to be a successful college student.
For many people, it is their first time stepping out into the world as an adult and it can really be a life changing experience. A major part of college is working and interacting with other people. That is not only a skill that is needed to be a successful student, but it is also needed to be successful in the workforce. Being a college student also means that one has to learn how to manage his or her money, which again is not only needed to be a successful student, but also needed to be successful in life.
One thing that high school students should consider is that when they go to college they could be choosing the career path for the rest of their life. Some people question the wisdom of letting an eighteen-year-old choose what they will be doing until they are sixty-five years old. Some believe that is the reason so many people are dissatisfied by the time they are in their late forties. Another mistake young students make is to choose the career that is guaranteed to bring in the largest paycheck. This is another cause for dissatisfaction. Both of these mistakes are easily rememdied when the student has good counselors behind him. The best counselor of all is the parents.
As one can see, college is much more than sitting in class, studying, and writing ten page papers. It is a life enriching experience that if one is fortunate enough to get the chance to experience, he or she should.
